The Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC) aimed to enhance its asset management capabilities, striving for ISO 55001 certification and operational performance and efficiency improvements. They strived to be the sector leader and to be more influential across the region in power transmission.
We played a pivotal role in OETC's asset management transformation, providing strategic guidance, technical expertise, and practical support. We designed and managed the programme and provided all the external technical support.
Phase 1 of the project required a capability assessment to be undertaken before designing a transformation roadmap and the associated business case.
The resulting project implemented ISO 55001 compliant asset management practices and went further in a number of key areas such as risk management, asset information and performance management, investment planning, and strategy development. More importantly, it also fostered cultural change, operational improvements and capital project delivery improvements.
The implementation started with business process design of the whole company, restructuring and an awareness and training programme.
The programme delivered the following outcomes: Successful ISO 55001 certification at the first attempt, improved capital delivery performance, operational efficiencies and service performance, and enhanced regulatory compliance. Overall, OETC was satisfied that their reputation with the Regulator and their other key stakeholders was greatly strengthened as a result of the project.
The partnership between OETC and QASR showcases the effectiveness of strategic planning, technical expertise, and collaborative engagement in achieving asset management excellence. OETC is now well-equipped to sustain its transformation and deliver value to stakeholders in Oman's electricity transmission sector.
